Write Better Prompts for Everyday Work

By Amandine Flament · 29 June 2026 · 6 min read

The difference between a useless AI answer and a great one is rarely the tool — it's the prompt. You don't need to be a prompt engineer. A simple, repeatable structure gets you 90% of the way.

Give role, context, task, format

A strong prompt has four parts: who the AI should act as, the context it needs, the exact task, and the format you want back. Skip any one and the result drifts. This structure alone transforms your outputs.

Sample promptAct as an experienced [role]. Context: [your situation]. Task: [what you need]. Format: [length, structure, tone]. If anything is unclear, ask me before answering.

Give an example of what "good" looks like

AI mirrors what you show it. Paste an example of the style or format you want, and the output aligns far more closely. One good example beats three paragraphs of instructions.

Iterate instead of restarting

The first answer is a draft, not a verdict. Refine it: "shorter," "more concrete," "less formal." A short back-and-forth gets you there faster than a perfect first prompt ever could.

💡 Save what works: when a prompt gives great results, keep it. Build a small library of your best prompts for recurring tasks — that's where the real time savings compound.
